About

My name is Melanie and I'm a software engineer in NYC. I love solving challenging problems and learning new technologies, even more so when I'm working as part of a team.

I geek out about all things data and have over 6 years of professional experience solving data-related problems and enhancing the end user experience in the biotechnology, public health, and healthcare industries.

Growing up, I always found myself breaking things and putting them back together. In university I majored in Genetics where through my labwork I continued the trend by knocking out genes, observing what went wrong (or right), and making an educated guess regarding the function of the gene.

My education in Genetics has strongly informed the way I learn new technologies and tackle engineering challenges. Instead of focusing solely on writing code, I spend much of my time breaking down my own code and the code of others in order to develop a deeper understanding of what makes the code work and to write DRY, elegant code.

When I'm not coding, I enjoy running, reading, and playing the saxophone.
